A telescopic handler, also called a telehandler, teleporter, reach forklift, or zoom boom, is a machine widely used in agriculture and industry. It is somewhat like a forklift but has a boom (telescopic cylinder), making it more a crane than a forklift, with the increased versatility of a single telescopic that can extend forwards and upwards from the vehicle. The boom can be fitted with different attachments, such as a bucket, pallet forks, muck grab, or winch.

This course will assist the learner in becoming a fully qualified Telescopic Boom Handler operator who has the knowledge, skills and experience to operate the Telescopic Handler in a safe and professional manner. This will allow certified users by adding value to any organization.

Successful candidates credited with this unit standard are able to:

• Discuss and apply the regulatory framework for operating a telescopic boom handler
• Describe the telescopic boom handler to be operated
• Demonstrate mechanical awareness of the telescopic boom handler
• Inspect the telescopic boom handler
• Handle loads with a telescopic boom handler
• Operate a telescopic boom handler
