Unit Standard (SAQA Reg. No 263245)

The purpose of this course is to provide scaffold erectors with the regulations of the occupational health and safety act, safety guidelines and procedures needed to recognize and eliminate hazards in the erection of scaffolding within the work environment.

Scaffold erectors are those employees who have been designated to be the competent persons who are responsible for the erection and maintenance of scaffolds on construction environment.

Scaffold erectors build and dismantle various types of scaffolding and temporary elevated work platforms. Erectors are responsible for building and taking down scaffolds and temporary support structures.

Successful candidates credited with this unit standard are able to:

  • Interpret basic drawings and instructions for the erection of access scaffolding
  • Coordinate resources for the erection of access scaffolding
  • Erect and use access scaffolding
  • Dismantle access scaffolding

Scaffold Erector Learning Outcomes

The qualifying learner will acquire the knowledge and skills required by the industry to function as a scaffold erector. Their functions will include leading a scaffold team. This includes the ability to safely and efficiently deploy the required resources to erect and dismantle access scaffolding. This course will serve, in conjunction with related programmes, to develop the qualifying learner to function as a scaffold erector in an access scaffold team. Entry Level Requirements Into This Programme?
  • Certified copy of his/her ID document
  • School certificate Grade 7 (Std 5) or Skills certificate equivalent NQF Level 3
  • Be medically fit and in possession of a medical certificate, declaring him/her free from a condition that may prevent him/her from working safely at heights
